In the past, IT and business have had a hostile relationship. Each side blamed the other when projects were unsuccessful. This was further exacerbated by nature of IT projects that were both complex and expensive to design. Even with a contract to ensure that the business was aware of what IT offered, it was difficult to anticipate what could be wrong. In addition, the requirements often changed during development. The solution to this chasm was to establish a new kind of collaboration between business and IT: an “partnership.” This partnership is based on the idea that both parties must be prepared for failure.
